You want me to run what?

Alright here it is. First day of training our distance was to be 8-10 miles. Let me write that again...on  day one of  training we were expected to run 8-10 miles! (I haven't run that kind of distance let alone much running at all since October!) It is what is is, I'm a compliant Ultra-ite I do what I'm told, but don't think I'm not questioning it, cursing it, and thinking of other ways to help The Leukemia Lymphoma Society the whole way. (Well, maybe not the whole way, maybe just miles 1-3 & 8-10)
We have a great group so far. The TNT Inaugural Ultra Team was started by and headed up by our Head Coach Mama Lisa. A sweet soft spoken lady, nicknamed Mama Lisa because she mothers us so. To meet her you wouldn't think that this sweet petite lady would ever make you go through any kind of pain, but since she runs Ultra Marathons over and over so effortlessly, 8-10 miles is nothing to her, it's probably the distance she runs to warm up. I'm not kidding, she's Ultra Awesome. The TNT marathon Team I previously trained with was hard, but they only have to run maybe 1-4 miles on their first day of training. When I first trained with them 2 years ago, I couldn't even run a consecutive mile. 1-4 miles is hard for most of us, I mean come on, most of us drive when our destination is more than 1/2 a mile, try running it. So yes, I missed my marathon coaches this morning. Ready for the breakdown? The SF Bay Area Ultra Team set out to run 8-10 miles up & down wet muddy hills with a few areas that you actually have to hurdle over. Okay, so I didn't actually run up the hills, but I ran down them, and around them, and through them. I caught up with my team mates Ben & Bethany around 3.5 miles & we ran what turned out to be probably 11 miles, maybe slightly more. LOL that's how we do it Ultra style. That's also what we do when we miss the 5 mile turnaround. Too bad the Garmin watch turned off, we could have used the GPS out there. Okay, that's it...outside of a headache from probably not fueling properly during the run/hike, I feel pretty good. Trail running is different, thanks to the soft fresh mud I don't have the usual knee or IT band problems. Thanks also to my Brooks Cascadia trail shoes I purchased last season, that have somewhat successfully taken me through 27 miles. (FYI-that's about the distance from my home to San Francisco). I'm not sure if I made it clear or not, and I don't quite remember how I actually felt out on the trails this morning, but sitting here on my sofa now I can happily write. It was a very good day.

YOU are Ultra Awesome! Way to go on your first Coached Run! It's great to see you out there becoming one with nature ~ mud, hilly terrain, limitless mileage. Keep up the awesome work! And um, already at 46%?! Amazing! I'm so proud of you and how far you've come.
